Homeschooling Fourth Year: New Curriculum

Whenever I start our homeschooling year, I can't help but think of how I got started into diving and the possibility of starting our own journey. It all started with just a simple interview in TV and the rest is research and following homeschooling blogs. Today is our 4th year with homeschooling and I am bound to take a great step by using a new curriculum for my daughter. And by new, I also take a big leap of faith that we can go by each day without a fuss. For the last year of our homeschooling years, I only use worksheets, do-it-yourself activities and supplementary books aside from the resources that our school provides. However, for this year, I am using a full curriculum in each subject.

We are going to use The Good and the Beautiful Language Arts and Math. I find the Language Arts suitable for us because it already includes subjects like Geography, Spelling and also a book incorporated in the lesson topics. Instead of following the level appropriated for her, I use Level 3 since I know that it is much okay and will just skip lessons that we already walk through last year. For Math we are using the Level 4 for topics that we didn't take last school year.

Another curriculum that I am going to use is Master Books, I am using their Science and will be focusing on the Human Body. For the past years since she was in Kindergarten we are already studying animals and plants so I thought of teaching her the human body and correlate it with our Bible Studies: The Creation.

Introduction to Bible study will be added for this year since she is already interested with knowing about God. It will also lead us to be more knowledgeable about things we barely know about how it all started. May this be pathway for her to strengthen her religious beliefs and faith.

Having lots on our plate now that she is in Grade Level 4, I must always think of our goal on why we choose homeschooling instead of going to traditional school set-up. And this is of course to teach her what she really needs in life and what interests her. I don't want her to grow up bearing in mind that school is so tough for her and be fixated on attaining grades. For us, we don't primarily focus with grades but what we can learn and apply on our daily lives.
