Homeschooling Fifth Year

I realized that I haven't made a blog entry for our fifth year homeschooling journey. Life gets busy, and sometimes we are overwhelmed with things. It seems that 2025 is a year of coming back to reality after 5 years of the pandemic era. I am still not used to it. Things are getting back to normal and even much more. People tend to forget what we surpassed for the last 5 years. Well, for us, the first months of the year 2025 were bliss, and we were sick up to the very last month that we ended up getting hospitalized.

As for our homeschooling journey, I think the first quarter is the most energized quarter in each year. We were excited and ecstatic with new lessons, new routines, and even new curriculum. Then came the 2nd quarter, where we are a bit slowly transitioning to a more relaxed day-by-day lesson for each subject. The 3rd quarter was by far the most boring one because of the back-to-back holiday season. But since my husband took a leave from work, we were able to have our first staycation. We were also able to secure two workshops this year, one for her music (Serenata) and another for her arts (Star Art) subject. 

As for our curriculum, we retain our The Good and the Beautiful language, spelling, and math. We explore the science unit study along with an independent bird unit curriculum for her interest. We also retain the keyboarding and digital citizen curriculum. We started out fine with learning about the Bible using The Biggest Story Bible Storybook, but along the way we incorporated again the Character Builder's Bible for easy highlights of Bible stories. We added the HWOT cursive handwriting practice for her fine motor skills. I must say that she likes it and uses it sometimes when she writes. 

My daughter had her first workshop for acrylic painting, and she enjoyed it. We ended up enrolling for 8 sessions after that!

As of this writing (Feb 2026), we are on our first week of the 4th quarter and dealing with a passion project. So much of her arts activity for this year is aligned with the project, and I am glad that her efforts are not put to waste. 

This was the start of her art journey. I have so much in store for the next homeschool year, bits and pieces to be shared next time.
